Masdar city: Masdar City has renewed its commitment to advancing sustainability and supporting global efforts to address environmental challenges on the occasion of Earth Day. Marking the occasion, Ahmed Baghoum, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar City, stated that Earth Day serves as a reminder of the collective goal towards sustainability. He emphasized that for nearly two decades, Masdar City has functioned as a model for sustainable urban development, showcasing how sustainability, innovation, and resilience can be integrated into urban operations.
According to Emirates News Agency, Baghoum highlighted that Masdar City has consistently met its sustainability objectives and established new standards since its inception. In the year 2024 alone, the city achieved a 22.7 percent reduction in energy use intensity, generated 11,288 MWh of renewable energy, and conserved water equivalent to 12.4 Olympic swimming pools. These achievements occurred while supporting a city environment that accommodates living, learning, working, and leisure activities.
Baghoum further noted that Masdar City offers an ecosystem conducive to more sustainable operations for companies and partners. This is facilitated through shared standards, measurable performance, and proven best practices. He added that as the UAE progresses towards its net-zero 2050 goals, Masdar City continues to provide a practical framework for building resilient communities with measurable impact and long-term value. Earth Day, he stated, is an opportunity to reaffirm this commitment and continue building on these foundations.
