Abu dhabi: Masdar, also known as the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, is marking its 20th anniversary by showcasing its significant achievements and future plans at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Maryam Al Mazrouei, Head of Development and Investment (CIS) at Masdar, highlighted the company's progress, stating that they have reached an installed production capacity of nearly 65 gigawatts by the end of 2025. This milestone represents over two-thirds of their objective to achieve 100 gigawatts by 2030.
According to Emirates News Agency, Central Asia is a strategic region for Masdar's operations. The company initiated its investments in Uzbekistan with a 100-megawatt solar power project. Currently, its production portfolio in Uzbekistan has expanded to approximately 2 gigawatts, marking a twentyfold increase supported by investments amounting to around US$2 billion.
Al Mazrouei emphasized Azerbaijan as a crucial market for Masdar, where they are operating a 230-megawatt solar power project and constructing two additional solar projects. Additionally, Masdar is developing Azerbaijan's first wind power project with a 240-megawatt capacity, marking its inaugural wind project in the country.
In Kazakhstan, Masdar is advancing a wind power project that stands as the largest in the region, with a production capacity reaching up to 1 gigawatt. This project is complemented by battery storage systems with a capacity of 600 megawatts.
Al Mazrouei highlighted the recent signing of an agreement with Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy to develop the "Around the Clock" project. This initiative aims to provide continuous clean energy with a capacity of 1 gigawatt. She noted that Masdar announced the "Around the Clock" project in Abu Dhabi last year and it is currently in the implementation phase. Developing a similar project in Uzbekistan will aid the country's sustainable development and renewable energy goals.
Furthermore, Al Mazrouei announced the financial closure of the Guzar Solar and Battery Energy Storage Project in Uzbekistan, demonstrating Masdar's ongoing efforts to expand its global clean energy portfolio.
