Dubai: Middle East Energy 2026 officially opened today at Dubai World Trade Centre, marking the milestone 50th edition of the region's prominent energy event. The opening ceremony featured a high-profile walkthrough by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, alongside Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and David Lynn, CEO of inD, who engaged with leading energy firms to explore the latest innovations and solutions shaping the sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, in his opening address, emphasized the UAE's commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio while advancing the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. He highlighted projects like the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant and the world's largest 24/7 solar-plus-storage project, underscoring their role in demonstrating the compatibility of energy security, sustainability, and economic growth.
Al Mazrouei called for collective action among governments, industry, investors, technology companies, academia, and financial institutions to meet the global demand for power. He stressed the need to accelerate energy efficiency, drive innovation, reduce costs, and develop technologies that minimize energy losses. Additionally, he advocated for greater investment in electricity interconnectivity between countries and regions to build efficient and resilient energy systems.
He encouraged participants at Middle East Energy to use the event's platform to translate ambitions into practical actions, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate ongoing work in the UAE and worldwide. He articulated a clear goal: to create cleaner, more efficient, and better-connected energy systems for future generations.
The opening ceremony included keynote addresses from global leaders like Yaser bin Ebrahim Humaidan, Bahrain's Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, who highlighted the Gulf's strategic position in energy security. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Nigeria's Federal Minister of Power, emphasized the importance of building infrastructure and trust for energy security, while Lucie Berger, EU Ambassador to the UAE, spoke on the need for resilient, diversified clean tech energy systems.
Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), highlighted the importance of building resilient and flexible energy systems, supported by investment in grids, storage, and digitalization, to shape long-term climate and economic outcomes.
Middle East Energy 2026 serves as a unique platform for global dialogue on energy resilience, security, and demand. The event features over 30 sessions with prominent speakers, including Eng. Mozah Alnuaimi, Jennifer Granholm, Prof. Rae Known Chung, Chris Skidmore, and Dr. Abdulla Humaid Saif Al Jarwan.
