Minister of Climate Change and Environment Stresses Importance of Strategic Grain Storage for UAE’s Food Security

Fujairah:Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, has underscored the critical role that strategic grain storage infrastructure plays in enhancing the United Arab Emirates' food security. This statement was made during her visit to the Al Dahra Fujairah Strategic Grain Terminal (FSGT) at the Port of Fujairah, where she assessed the facility's capabilities in supporting the sustainability and resilience of the nation's supply chains amid global and regional developments.

According to Emirates News Agency, the visit included a comprehensive tour of the operational facilities where Dr. Al Dahak reviewed the strategic grain storage capabilities of Al Dahra. She also examined the integrated agricultural supply chain and operational resilience measures that support national preparedness and the sustainability of food supplies.

The Al Dahra FSGT is recognized as one of the region's largest grain storage facilities, equipped with infrastructure capable of handling significant volumes of grain imports and exports. Its strategic location outside the Strait of Hormuz is crucial for maintaining access to global trade routes and facilitating the movement of agricultural commodities across the UAE and the broader region.

During her visit, Dr. Al Dahak was briefed by Al Dahra representatives on the terminal's operational performance and resilience amid recent regional disruptions. The discussions highlighted the facility's role in supporting logistics and trade flows, as well as ensuring the continuous movement of agricultural goods. Additionally, she was informed about the facility's quality and food safety systems, including its ISO 22000 Food Safety Management certification and the advanced monitoring technologies in place. The ongoing investments aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and storage resilience were also part of the briefing.

Since its operational start in 2015, Al Dahra's facilities have sustained their capacity despite global and regional challenges, such as supply chain disruptions and market volatility.
