Abu dhabi: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the launch of the National Programme to Strengthen Supply Chain Resilience in the UAE. The programme is designed to enhance economic security, bolster the UAE's global competitiveness, and reinforce the nation's ability to adapt and sustain itself over the long term.
According to Emirates News Agency, the programme aims to secure the UAE's essential needs for food, medical, and industrial goods amidst global challenges. It adopts a comprehensive approach that includes diversifying import sources, supporting local manufacturing and agriculture in collaboration with the private sector, and expanding international partnerships to ensure the availability of essential goods.
The initiative also strengthens the UAE's proactive efforts to address risks facing global supply chains by building a national system that guarantees sustainable access to vital commodities and enhances the country's readiness for regional and global developments. It focuses on identifying priority vital products for the UAE, assessing their exposure to import risks, and determining strategic markets and sources of supply.
The programme explores opportunities to expand agricultural production and local manufacturing, studying investment prospects in key sectors that support long-term supply chain sustainability. It creates international partnerships with entities capable of large-scale production and delivery. Moreover, it evaluates various scenarios related to essential goods and suppliers, considering the feasibility of cultivating or manufacturing these products within the UAE. The programme also explores expanding investment opportunities with partner countries involved in their production.
