MoHAP Celebrates UAE’s First Participation in World Transplant Games in Germany

Abu dhabi: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) recently held a ceremony at its Dubai headquarters to honor the Emirati delegation that marked the UAE's inaugural participation at the World Transplant Games in Dresden, Germany. This event brought together athletes who are either organ donors or transplant recipients. According to Emirates News Agency, the ceremony aimed to recognize the inspiring recovery stories of the team members and to underscore the significance of organ donation and its life-saving impact. It also served to acknowledge the national efforts that have contributed to the success of the 'Hayat' programme and to promote the culture of organ donation across the UAE. Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Health Regulation Sector and Supervisor of the National Programme for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation 'Hayat,' presented honorary awards to the UAE delegation members who represented the Hayat programme. The delegation's participation in the Worl d Transplant Games showcased their determination, perseverance, and resilience following their transplant or donation journeys, reflecting the considerable progress in the UAE's organ donation system. Six living donors and organ-recipient athletes from the UAE participated in the event, each with a compelling story of courage and renewal. Among 2,500 competitors from 51 countries, the team achieved notable successes, securing a gold medal in the 200-meter race, another gold in the javelin throw, and bronze medals in both the 200-meter race and the pétanque doubles. These achievements highlighted the generosity of donors and the efficiency of transplant medical teams, as well as the remarkable advancements made by the Hayat programme. Dr. Amin Al Amiri emphasized that the UAE's participation in the World Transplant Games represents both a humanitarian and national milestone, showcasing the progress made in this field due to the visionary support of the country's leadership and the ongoing cooperation of rele vant authorities. He noted that the Hayat programme embodies the values of generosity and solidarity that are central to the UAE's organ donation system. The recognition is a token of appreciation for everyone who contributed to this initiative's success, including donors, recipients, ambassadors, and partners. Al Amiri stated that this achievement aligns with the UAE's vision of enhancing quality of life and reinforcing its position as a global leader in organ transplantation and advanced healthcare. He highlighted the importance of sport and physical activity in the post-transplant recovery journey, noting that the participation of Emirati athletes sends a powerful humanitarian message and opens new opportunities for international cooperation. Looking ahead, the Ministry aims to expand its participation in the 2027 edition of the Games in Belgium with a larger team and greater preparedness, in coordination with the Ministry of Sports, the Olympic Committee, and relevant health authorities. The UAE also pl ans to submit a bid to host the 2029 World Transplant Games, aspiring to become the first Arab and Gulf country to host this significant global event. Additionally, the UAE looks to host the "HAYAT International Transplant and Sport Congress." The event coincided with a scientific symposium organized by the ISOT, where experts highlighted the role of physical activity in improving the quality of life post-transplantation. They also advocated for a comprehensive care model that includes sport as an essential component of modern transplant medicine.
