MoHAP Unveils Comprehensive National Health and Nutrition Survey 2024-2025 Findings

Abu dhabi: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), in collaboration with national partners, has released the findings of the National Health and Nutrition Survey 2024-2025. This survey provides a comprehensive national overview of population health, offering an evidence-based foundation for enhanced preventative care and future health planning across the UAE.

According to Emirates News Agency, the survey was endorsed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and conducted in collaboration with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, federal and local authorities, and a wide range of partners across the UAE. It examined key population health and nutrition indicators, including health behaviors, dietary and nutrition patterns, maternal and child health, and risk factors for non-communicable diseases. The findings are intended to support health planning strategies and policies while contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Ahmed Ali Al-Sayegh, Minister of Health and Prevention, highlighted that the survey findings reflect the UAE’s people-centered development approach and the leadership’s commitment to health, wellbeing, and quality of life as core national priorities. Al-Sayegh emphasized the importance of prevention, early intervention, and long-term planning, stating that the data supports the UAE’s development journey in alignment with leadership directives and government priorities.

Advanced digital tools and analytical technologies were used to process survey data, generating indicators with strong predictive value, thus strengthening evidence-based planning across the healthcare sector. The survey findings serve as a key national reference, supporting the development of health policies and programs grounded in precise data and scientific evidence.

Statistical analysis among adults aged 18 and above revealed significant health concerns: 8.7% of participants smoke, 59.1% do not engage in sufficient physical activity, 22.4% are living with obesity, 25.9% have high blood pressure, 12.5% have elevated blood glucose levels, and 54.2% have high cholesterol levels. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews using WHO-approved electronic questionnaires in multiple languages, alongside laboratory testing, ensuring privacy and public trust.

The National Nutrition Survey examined dietary patterns among individuals aged 18 to 69, revealing that 27.3% exceeded recommended sugar intake, 96.2% exceeded sodium intake, and 27.4% consumed sugar-sweetened beverages daily. Encouragingly, dietary diversity was noted, with a significant number of women and children meeting minimum dietary diversity thresholds.

Vitamin D deficiency remains a concern, affecting 49.3% of adults and 69.1% of children. In maternal health, the findings showed high access to care, with 99.6% of women visiting a physician during pregnancy and 94.8% attending at least four antenatal care visits.

Dr. Hussain Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, stated that the survey findings are part of an integrated national public health framework supporting non-communicable disease prevention and improved nutrition outcomes. The findings will guide the development of innovative health programs and expanded preventive screening.

Dr. Alya Zaid Harbi, Director of the Statistics and Research Centre at MoHAP, emphasized the survey’s scientific value due to rigorous statistical
methodologies and digital tools used in data collection and analysis. The survey reached 20,000 households across the UAE, ensuring broad representation for future health planning.
