Mubadala Energy Plans to Double Production, Focuses on Natural Gas Expansion

Abu Dhabi:Mubadala Energy has announced its ambitious goal to double production over the next decade, with natural gas expected to comprise approximately 70 percent of its portfolio, as stated by Acting Chief Executive Officer Adnan Bu Fateem.

According to Emirates News Agency, Bu Fateem emphasized the company's focus on disciplined growth and reliable operations to meet the rising energy demand responsibly. Mubadala Energy is actively exploring investment opportunities in the natural gas sector, aiming to connect competitive gas resources with long-term demand.

In Malaysia, Mubadala Energy operates the Pegaga gas field, where it has expanded production capacity and is exploring further growth opportunities. The company is advancing the Tangkulo development in Indonesia, building on its exploration efforts in the Andaman Sea. In the United States, Mubadala Energy's investment in Caturus LLC gives it an integrated presence in gas production in the Haynesville Basin and the Commonwealth LNG project, which has a planned production capacity of 9.5 million tonnes annually, with intentions to increase it to 16 million tonnes per year.

Mubadala Energy has also strengthened its position in Egypt by acquiring a 15 percent stake in the Nargis Offshore Area, complementing its existing investments in the Zohr and Nour concessions. These investments align with the company's strategy of pursuing growth through strong partnerships and clear routes to market.

Operating in 10 countries with seven producing assets across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the United States, Mubadala Energy's geographical diversification allows it to balance producing assets, development projects, and exploration opportunities. The United States, as its newest market, offers a platform for further expansion in North America through the Caturus investment.

Bu Fateem highlighted that Mubadala Energy's growth strategy combines targeted investments with performance improvements of existing assets, aiming to build a more competitive and integrated portfolio for domestic, regional, and international markets. The company is focusing on converting recent discoveries and investments into producing projects that ensure reliable long-term energy supplies, with Indonesia playing a central role in this strategy.

Additionally, Mubadala Energy is committed to emissions reduction, having decreased its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 30.9 percent last year. The company continues to invest in technologies that enhance operational efficiency and improve asset performance while adopting digital technologies to reduce downtime and optimize resource use.
