Abu dhabi: The Muslim Council of Elders, under the leadership of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has strongly condemned Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's announcement approving the construction of 3,400 new settlement units in the West Bank and surrounding areas of Jerusalem, which are Palestinian territories.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Council issued a statement categorically rejecting these actions by the Israeli occupation. The Council argued that the plans contravene United Nations charters, international laws, and Security Council resolutions, and they undermine efforts to achieve peace in the region and beyond.
The Muslim Council of Elders reiterated its urgent appeal to the international community to address these violations against the Palestinian people. The Council called for a halt to the aggression in the Gaza Strip, opposition to starvation policies and forced displacement attempts, and support for the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
