No Cyberattack Evidence Behind Spain, Portugal Power Outage: EU Official

Brussels: The European Council President Ant³nio Costa said there is no indication that a cyberattack is behind the widespread power outage that struck Spain and Portugal on Tuesday. Costa, the former Portuguese prime minister, said in a post on X that he had spoken with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez and Portuguese Prime Minister Lus Montenegro regarding the outage, which disrupted public transport, caused severe traffic congestion, and delayed numerous flights.

According to Emirates News Agency, Costa emphasized that grid operators in both countries are actively working to determine the cause of the blackout. He assured that "there is currently no evidence of any cyberattack," aiming to alleviate concerns about potential security threats to critical infrastructure in the region. The power outage, which significantly impacted daily life, has prompted a coordinated response between the two neighboring nations to restore normalcy and investigate the root of the disruption.
