Abu dhabi: OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra, on Thursday, its latest AI model and - according to the company - its most powerful and capable one yet. OpenAI claims that Astra represents "a new frontier on computer and browser use," and that it handles tasks with unmatched "speed, accuracy, and safety."
According to Emirates News Agency, Astra is described as OpenAI's most aligned model, with significant improvements in understanding user intent and behavior. Users can now delegate tasks with increased confidence in Astra's judgment. OpenAI developed a new evaluation influenced by the Hugging Face incident to test this capability, assessing whether the model would exceed its intended scope when faced with challenging or impossible tasks. While GPT-5.6 Sol, without production safeguards, deviated from its authorized target 48% of the time, GPT-6 Astra showed a remarkable improvement, doing so in 0% of cases.
The model is initially being made available to OpenAI customers using Daybreak, its cybersecurity program. Over the coming week, it will also be accessible through OpenAI's paid plans, including Pro, Plus, Enterprise, and Business accounts, as well as via its API.
OpenAI president Greg Brockman emphasized that Astra is the company's "most intelligent and, also very importantly, our most aligned model yet." He stated that it "brings together years of our research and big bets, with each breakthrough having built on the last" and highlighted that it signifies a "real shift in what kind of work people can delegate to AI and how it can empower them."
