Over 1,800 Flights Disrupted at Dallas Airports Due to Telecom Outage

Dallas: More than 1,800 flights were delayed and hundreds were canceled at the two Dallas-area airports on Friday, following a telecom outage that led the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground stops. According to Emirates News Agency, the FAA reported that they were slowing traffic due to a local telephone company equipment issue that did not involve FAA equipment. The FAA is collaborating with the telephone company to determine the cause of the outage. The FAA announced that it had halted departures to Dallas Fort Worth until 11 pm ET and to Dallas Love Field until at least 8:45 pm. FlightAware, a flight tracking service, noted that airlines canceled 20 percent of their flights at Dallas airports. American Airlines faced significant disruptions, canceling more than 200 flights and delaying over 500, which affected a quarter of its schedule. Similarly, Southwest Airlines delayed more than 1,100 flights, comprising 27 percent of its schedule, as reported by FlightAware.
