Dubai: Pakistan’s exports through the United Arab Emirates experienced significant growth over the past year, increasing from US$280 million to US$380 million. This was highlighted by Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the UAE, showcasing the strength and depth of economic cooperation between the two nations.
According to Emirates News Agency, Ambassador Tirmizi made these remarks during the inauguration of Pakistan’s stands at GITEX Global 2025 in Dubai. The event was opened by Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and signifies Pakistan’s long-standing commitment to this global event. The ambassador emphasized the significant developments in economic relations across various sectors between the countries.
Ambassador Tirmizi pointed out that within the strategic partnership framework between the UAE and Pakistan, several bilateral initiatives have been launched to digitize the economy and bolster digital infrastructure. He mentioned that a high-level Pakistani delegation is actively working with UAE authorities to explore cooperation opportunities in digital transformation and information technology.
He further stated that Pakistan recognizes the substantial potential for collaboration in the technology sector, with current exports in this area amounting to about US$4 million annually. Ambassador Tirmizi expressed confidence that Pakistan’s skilled human resources and technical expertise could significantly enhance this figure to US$100 million in the near future.
Highlighting the importance of the UAE as a trade partner, Ambassador Tirmizi noted that it is Pakistan’s third-largest export destination after the United States and the United Kingdom. This year marks the participation of over 1,000 Pakistani startups and companies at GITEX, the largest number in Pakistan’s history of participation in the event.
In conclusion, the ambassador stressed that the relations between Pakistan and the UAE are built on deep-rooted historical foundations, expressing his country’s aspiration to elevate these relations to a model partnership that can serve as an example regionally and globally.
