Brussels:The European Chip Design Platform is set to mobilize an investment of £525 million to foster a new generation of chip design companies in Europe. The initiative was launched by Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, as part of the EU Chips Act.
According to Wam, the European Chip Design Platform, accessible at eurocdp.eu, will provide chip design companies with essential resources such as design tools, support services, intellectual property blocks, and manufacturing capacity. These resources are crucial yet often expensive and difficult for early-stage companies to access.
The platform offers funding opportunities for start-ups and companies. Early-stage start-ups can apply for grants of up to £100,000 for proof-of-concept prototyping, while more developed start-ups have the opportunity to apply for £16 million grants to cover the substantial costs associated with chip development and commercialization.
