Abu dhabi: PureLab, a subsidiary of PureHealth and operator of the largest network of laboratories in the Middle East, has partnered with LODD Autonomous to pilot a drone-based initiative for transporting blood samples between SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) and PureLab's Abu Dhabi headquarters. The project, bolstered by the support of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), was inaugurated with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing during the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Week, organized by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC).
According to Emirates News Agency, the initiative aims to enhance the speed and efficiency of transporting critical medical samples utilizing LODD's advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology. This system allows for the secure and reliable daily transfer of vital blood samples, adhering to health regulatory standards in the emirate, which in turn reduces diagnostic turnaround times and accelerates medical response.
Badr Al-Olama, Director-General of ADIO, highlighted that through the Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industries (SAVI) cluster, Abu Dhabi is pushing the boundaries of autonomous technology with practical applications that have a direct impact on lives. He emphasized that the pilot marks a significant advancement in how autonomous systems can fortify healthcare delivery, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's standing as a global hub where future mobility solutions are designed and implemented.
The project signifies a crucial advancement in incorporating autonomous technologies into healthcare logistics, enhancing performance efficiency, operational sustainability, and service quality across Abu Dhabi's healthcare framework. It also strives to minimize environmental impact while boosting the reliability and efficiency of diagnostic services.
Arindam Haldar, CEO of PureLab, stated that every minute saved in transporting blood samples translates to a minute gained for patients awaiting diagnosis. By integrating drone logistics into their diagnostics network, they aim to not only improve delivery times but also advance the continuum of care, reflecting a commitment to serving people with increased speed, intelligence, and environmental responsibility.
Rashid Al Manai, CEO of LODD Autonomous, described the pilot project as a practical demonstration of how autonomous aviation can enhance healthcare logistics through fast, safe, and sustainable medical transport solutions. He noted that this endeavor is a tangible step towards improving response times and elevating healthcare service quality in Abu Dhabi.
The collaboration exemplifies the convergence of UAE's government vision and private-sector innovation in delivering transformative solutions. Supported by ADIO and SASC, the project strengthens Abu Dhabi's position as a living laboratory for future technologies in healthcare, mobility, and sustainability.
Falling under the SAVI Cluster-a component of ADIO aimed at accelerating intelligent mobility solutions-the project seeks to gather insights to establish standards and regulatory frameworks for the future commercial application of medical air transport technologies, ensuring safety and operational efficiency.
This partnership reaffirms Abu Dhabi's role as a global leader in innovation within autonomous aviation and smart healthcare. By integrating precision medicine with precision mobility, PureLab is contributing to a new era of connected, sustainable healthcare, positioning Abu Dhabi at the forefront of translating futuristic concepts into everyday realities.
