Geneva: The State of Qatar has reiterated its commitment to eradicating all forms of racism and racial discrimination, urging the global community to embrace tolerance, coexistence, and mutual respect in the face of current challenges. This call to action was made during an informal meeting of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) with States parties to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) in Geneva.
According to Emirates News Agency, Qatar emphasized its proactive measures in promoting equality and fostering a culture of acceptance and tolerance. The State highlighted its policies and plans aimed at creating a pluralistic and safe social environment, free from intolerance, hatred, and discrimination. Qatar's statement underscored its belief that racism and racial discrimination are violations of international and national charters and norms.
Qatar also pointed out the heightened need, amid current regional and international challenges, to steer clear of approaches that might lead to increased polarization or justify discrimination, exclusion, or targeting based on race or origin. The statement highlighted the importance of dialogue and the necessity of protecting international platforms from practices that could disrupt the balance needed to effectively address discrimination issues.
