At least 17 people lost their lives while 46 others received injuries in the past 48 hours due to rain related incidents across Pakistan's eastern Punjab province as rain continued for the second consecutive day, said authorities on Thursday.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in a statement issued to media said that three children under the age of 10 were killed in Lahore city after the roof of a house near the Bandianwala Bridge collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
Moreover, six deaths were reported in Gujranwala district after a wooden structure inside a three-storey house collapsed.
In similar incidents, three people each were killed in Chakwal and Sheikhupura districts while one person each died in Jhang and Faisalabad cities.
In a separate incident, 14 people were injured as a wall of the Government Mozang Teaching Hospital, adjoining a neighboring building, collapsed, said PDMA.
It said 32 other people across the province had sustained severe injuries in multiple rain-related incidents. The injured people were shifted to the government run medical facilities.
Earlier, seven people were reportedly killed in the rain related incidents in Pakistan's eastern Lahore city as record breaking rain lashed the city causing floods. The city received unexpected record rainfall of 291 millimeters which is a 30 year record.
