These applications, initially designed for legitimate purposes such as technical support and remote work, are now being manipulated by fraudsters to execute criminal activities aimed at stealing money and sensitive information.
According to Emirates News Agency, the police highlighted that scammers often deceive victims into downloading these applications under the guise of providing assistance or resolving technical issues. This deception grants the fraudsters full control over the victim's device, allowing access to confidential data. The police have strongly advised the public to be cautious and to avoid responding to suspicious phone calls that request the installation of such applications or the sharing of sensitive information.
Abu Dhabi Police have reiterated that legitimate bank employees will never ask for bank account details, credit card numbers, passwords, PINs, or one-time passwords. They have called for increased vigilance and caution, advising individuals to download applications only from official and trusted sources to prevent falling victim to fraud.
In the event of any fraud attempt, the public is urged to report it immediately by contacting 'Aman' at 8002626, sending a text message to 2828, or visiting the nearest police station. These measures are part of broader efforts to combat cybercrime and safeguard society. The police also emphasized the importance of using security software and ensuring it is regularly updated to provide an additional layer of protection against such threats.
