Sharjah Ruler Establishes Family and Community Council to Enhance Social Welfare

Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree for the establishment and organisation of the Sharjah Family and Community Council. This new council is dedicated to managing family and community affairs within the Emirate and aims to assist the Ruler in organising these domains effectively.

According to Emirates News Agency, the decree outlines the creation of the "Sharjah Family and Community Council," which will hold legal personality and the necessary legal capacity to achieve its objectives and exercise its competences. The council's primary goal is to nurture, develop, and empower families and communities while promoting national identity across various fields. H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi will chair the council, supported by the Executive Office. The Chairperson is empowered to manage the council, including approving its general policy, regulations, and financial resources.

The council's main headquarters will be located in Sharjah city, with the Chairperson having the authority to establish branches or offices in other regions. It seeks to prepare public policies and strategic plans focused on family, women, children, youth, culture, crafts, hospitality, media, and community initiatives. The council will also coordinate with affiliated entities and community institutions to ensure seamless integration.

In addition to its local initiatives, the council will support and fund humanitarian, developmental, and community projects on a regional and global scale. It aims to protect the rights of children and vulnerable families, improve their lives, and raise awareness about child safety and protection. The council is committed to promoting family stability and cohesion and supporting women in sports and other societal roles.

The decree also identifies the council's affiliated entities, including government bodies like the Sharjah Family Development, Nama Women Advancement Establishment, and Sharjah Women Sports, among others. The Chairperson has the authority to modify these affiliations as necessary.

The newly established council replaces the former Supreme Council for Family Affairs, inheriting all its rights, assets, and obligations. An administrative restructuring will be undertaken to align with the new council's strategic goals.

H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi highlighted that the council's creation follows a comprehensive study of the Emirate's leadership aspirations, aiming to enhance individual development and the role of families within the community. She emphasised the ongoing investment in human development, which began four decades ago, and continues with the establishment of various family-oriented institutions.

Moreover, the council will work under the motto 'An aware family, a cohesive society,' serving as an umbrella for integrating efforts to support families and society. H.H. also touched on the Sharjah Hospitality Group's role in community investment, which seeks to return revenues to community welfare and support sustainable development.

Her Highness expressed confidence in the Emirate's youth, considering them the hope for future development. She emphasised the need for adaptability in planning to benefit society and its members, highlighting the positive impact of decades of investment in institutional maturity.
