Abu dhabi: Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Agricultural Club, emphasized the significance of agriculture in ensuring the UAE's food security and sustainability. He highlighted the pivotal role of national initiatives in fostering innovation and attracting young entrepreneurs to the agricultural sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Ahmed made these remarks during a panel session at the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award pavilion, part of the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba. He noted that the award has been instrumental in raising awareness among farmers and promoting the adoption of modern technologies and practices.
The session was attended by prominent figures including Sheikh Eng. Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Moza Suhail Al Muhairi, and Ahmed Khaled Othman, along with officials, experts, farmers, and young entrepreneurs. Mubarak Al Qusaili Al Mansouri, who moderated the session, guided discussions on the future of agriculture, sustainability, and the impact of national awards on innovation.
Sheikh Ahmed explained that the Abu Dhabi Agricultural Club was established to facilitate knowledge exchange among farmers, emphasizing the value of collaboration and engagement. The club has since evolved into a comprehensive community, disseminating best practices across the nation.
On sustainability, Sheikh Ahmed stressed responsible resource use, a longstanding element of Emirati culture. He highlighted the UAE's successful implementation of advanced farming systems, such as hydroponics and solar-powered greenhouses, which significantly reduce water consumption, aligning with the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
He praised the UAE leadership for their support of the agricultural sector, noting that the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award has been crucial in recognizing farmers and innovators, fostering competition, and increasing youth participation. Sheikh Ahmed underscored the importance of moral support and recognition alongside technical and financial assistance.
Sheikh Ahmed also discussed the importance of public-private partnerships in building a resilient agricultural ecosystem, combining policy support with production, marketing, and technological innovation. He pointed out the UAE's shift towards smart agriculture, with plans to expand artificial intelligence and automation to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
After the session, Sheikh Ahmed toured the award pavilion, which highlights the award's journey and success stories. He remarked that the initiative showcases agriculture as a dynamic sector capable of embracing innovation and advanced technologies.
