Ras Al Khaimah:H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, attended a ceremony organized by the RAK Transport Authority (RAKTA) in cooperation with RAK Properties. The event marked the launch of the emirate's autonomous mobility framework and the announcement of the Autonomous Vehicle Testing Zone Initiative.
According to Wam, the event took place at the InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort and Spa. H.H. Sheikh Saud witnessed the signing of 10 partnership agreements involving government entities, specialized companies, universities, and academic and research institutions. These partnerships aim to enhance cooperation in the field of autonomous mobility technologies and to further scientific research.
H.H. Sheikh Saud emphasized the significance of developing an autonomous mobility system as a crucial step towards a more advanced and sustainable future for the emirate, aligning with its long-term vision. He stated that incorporating advanced technologies is intended to improve safety, convenience, and quality of life, while also contributing to the UAE's development journey.
The initiative includes the establishment of a dedicated environment for testing autonomous vehicles, assessing their efficiency and safety. This is part of efforts to attract specialized international companies and foster the development of smart and sustainable transport solutions in Ras Al Khaimah. The framework builds on ongoing trials of autonomous RoboBus vehicles and RoboTaxi testing in various areas.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Zeng Jixin, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the UAE, and senior officials from various sectors. The initiative aims to boost Ras Al Khaimah's competitiveness and attractiveness as a hub for innovation and high-quality investment.
