Abu dhabi: H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the 'Mother of the Nation', has reviewed the Family Development Foundation's (FDF) programs and services aimed at supporting senior citizens and enhancing family cohesion. As the Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the FDF, Sheikha Fatima's visit to the foundation's center in Abu Dhabi highlighted her commitment to these initiatives.

According to Emirates News Agency, during her visit, Sheikha Fatima was informed about the initiatives designed to improve the quality of life for senior citizens and bolster their societal roles. These initiatives align with a law issued by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which amends the FDF's mandate to offer guidance and support for families, as well as social services related to the elderly. This law aims to enhance the development and stability of family structures in the emirate.

Sheikha Fatima commended the FDF's five-year strategy focused on enhancing the well-being of senior citizens, supporting family stability through parental guidance, and improving institutional performance by developing human, technical, and media capabilities. She also praised the 'Barakatna' initiative, launched by Sheikh Mohamed and implemented by the Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi in collaboration with the FDF and other entities, which supports home care for senior citizens.

The 'Barakatna' initiative is part of Abu Dhabi's comprehensive community care ecosystem, which aims to improve the quality of life for senior citizens and reinforce family cohesion and social solidarity. Sheikha Fatima also expressed appreciation for the Home Safety Guide for Senior Citizens, which sets standards for adapting homes to ensure the safety and well-being of the elderly, and aims to raise awareness among families about home safety standards.

Additionally, Sheikha Fatima launched a new initiative to strengthen intergenerational ties and emphasize the role of older individuals in passing on values and experiences. In recognition of the 'Year of Family', she directed the launch of community initiatives, including support for young people preparing for marriage, an audio platform focused on family stability, and a campaign promoting respect and inclusion of senior citizens within Emirati families.

Sheikha Fatima also highlighted the importance of enhancing healthcare for senior citizens through partnerships with government health bodies and adopting global best practices. She emphasized the media's role in raising health awareness and promoting social stability.

Ali Salem Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of FDF, noted that Sheikha Fatima's visit underscored the leadership's focus on families and senior citizens. He stated that the foundation would continue expanding partnerships to deliver sustainable services. Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, FDF Director-General, mentioned that the visit coincided with the foundation's 20th anniversary and reaffirmed its commitment to the 'Year of Family' initiatives, supporting senior citizens and reinforcing social cohesion.
