London:The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) is presenting its ambitious tourism development plans at the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2026. This initiative includes a combination of new cultural attractions, expanded accommodation capacity, and heritage hospitality. A key highlight is the international debut of the Kalba Rock Art Centre, alongside other significant projects like the Heart of Sharjah and the expansion of Al Faya Sharjah Retreat.
According to Wam, Shurooq is participating for the 21st time under the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) umbrella, focusing on transforming its investments into sustained international tourism demand. Through strategic partnerships with tour operators and travel distributors, Shurooq aims to increase Sharjah’s presence in global travel programs, encouraging longer stays and boosting visitor spending across the emirate.
The upcoming Kalba Rock Art Centre is set to be completed by Q2 2027, featuring over 400 engravings across 150 rock outcrops. This site will offer visitors a glimpse into historical depictions of animals and human activities. The project is being developed in collaboration with the Sharjah Archaeology Authority and Global Digital Heritage, adding a cultural dimension to Kalba's coastal and nature offerings.
In addition to the Kalba project, the Heart of Sharjah initiative integrates restored historic buildings, traditional souqs, museums, and hospitality venues. The Chedi Al Bait provides luxury accommodation within restored Emirati homes, with further expansions like The Serai Wing, Bait Khalid bin Ibrahim, and Al Bait Al Westi, enhancing cultural and event opportunities.
Shurooq's hospitality developments are also set to diversify accommodation options in desert, wildlife, and coastal areas. Al Faya Sharjah Retreat is expanding from five to 20 units by December 2026. Collaboration with The LUX Collective will introduce luxury tented accommodation at LUX* Al Bridi in Sharjah Safari and a coastal retreat at LUX* Khorfakkan.
The showcase further highlights Mleiha National Park, a significant archaeological area covering 34.2 square kilometers, featuring the UNESCO-listed Faya Palaeolandscape. Moon Sharjah Retreat offers dome and tent accommodations for extended desert exploration.
Additional features include Al Badayer Sharjah Resort's desert fort setting, Kingfisher Sharjah Retreat, and Nomad Sharjah Retreat in Kalba. In Khorfakkan, Najd Al Meqsar and Al Rayaheen Sharjah Retreats offer traditional and restored village home accommodations, complemented by experiences at Al Noor Island and Al Heera Beach. These initiatives aim to enrich travel packages, promote longer stays, and enhance visitor spending in Sharjah.
