Snowfall and Rains Claim 61 Lives in Afghanistan

Kabul: At least 61 people have lost their lives and 110 others sustained injuries due to heavy snowfall and rains across Afghanistan on Wednesday and Thursday, announced the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in a statement on Saturday.

According to Emirates News Agency, the severe weather conditions have also resulted in the complete or partial destruction of 458 homes. The NDMA highlighted that these figures are preliminary as surveys and assessments are ongoing in various regions, indicating that there could be changes to these numbers.

Over the past three days, Afghanistan has been experiencing frigid temperatures and heavy snowfall. This has led to the closure of several key highways and roads, disrupting critical connections between the national capital, Kabul, and several provinces.
