The Algerian state-owned energy corporation Sonatrach and its subsidiary SONELGAZ inked on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding with the Italian energy giant Eni to carry out feasibility studies for connecting the national power grids of both countries. The document was signed by Sonatrach President Rachid Hachichi, Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi and SONELGAZ Boarch Chairman Mourad Adjal, according to a joint statement. The project aims to ensure electricity supplies from Algeria to Italy and further to the European markets via a submarine power cable across the Mediterranean, the statement added.
