Abu dhabi: Space42, the UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech company, in collaboration with Cobham Satcom, has announced the completion of an advanced portfolio of terminals designed for the Thuraya-4 Next Generation Satellite (T4-NGS). This new range of terminals aims to provide broadband-grade L-band services across various sectors, including government, national security, maritime, and commercial domains.
According to Emirates News Agency, the integration of these new terminals with the Thuraya-4 network offers enhanced capabilities in L-band mobility and mission performance. This development allows users to achieve high-throughput connectivity in diverse field operations. Sulaiman Al Ali, CCO of Space42, emphasized the company's strategy to lead Non-Terrestrial Networks by scaling Thuraya-4 services through partnerships with trusted technology partners like Cobham Satcom. The collaboration is expected to advance capabilities and maximize existing coverage.
Cobham Satcom's CEO, Christophe Duret, highlighted the secure and resilient connectivity provided by the new L-band terminals, which are crucial for operations in various challenging environments, such as battlefields, disaster zones, and rough seas. With Thuraya-4 entering service, the terminals are set to ensure mission success for defense, humanitarian, commercial, and critical infrastructure applications.
The comprehensive terminal portfolio from Cobham Satcom guarantees broadband-grade L-band connectivity exceeding 1 Mbps, even in remote or contested areas. This development follows the commercial service launch of Space42's next-generation Thuraya-4 satellite, which commenced in November 2025. The satellite, one of the most advanced geostationary satellites, offers resilient coverage across more than 100 countries, including regions in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
The Thuraya-4 terminal range caters to the distinct needs of government, defense, maritime, and commercial users, offering both military-certified and high-end commercial-grade terminals. The portfolio includes Comms-on-the-Pause and Comms-on-the-Move systems, each available in military and commercial configurations.
The IP NEO terminals, designed as Comms-on-the-Pause solutions, are portable and fit into a backpack. The IP NEO M variant is tailored for military use, providing secure connectivity for mission-critical operations, while the rugged IP NEO C is suited for enterprise, humanitarian, and civil missions.
Comms-on-the-Move solutions complete the portfolio with terminals like the Orion NEO, which supports maritime and offshore operations, and the Voyager NEO, a commercial vehicular terminal maintaining connectivity for teams in transit. The Commander terminal, featuring military-grade certifications, ensures soldiers maintain secure, real-time awareness in extreme conditions.
The Thuraya-4 network establishes a new benchmark in L-band communications, offering advanced beam management and resilience in harsh environments, all based on 3GPP LTE standards. The network ensures reliable service during interference or infrastructure failures and supports video, real-time data, and IoT capabilities. With default AES-256 encryption and expanded coverage into sub-Saharan Africa, coastal Europe, and the Middle East, the network significantly extends operational connectivity beyond terrestrial limits.
As the exclusive partner for terminal and ground infrastructure of Space42's Thuraya-4, Cobham Satcom continues to push the boundaries of mobile connectivity, combining rugged terminals, secure infrastructure, and extensive field experience to maintain its position as a leader in L-band satellite communications for critical missions worldwide.
