Abu dhabi: Sharjah Public Libraries (SPL) is set to host researchers, specialists, and Arab information institutions on September 14 and 15 for the 26th edition of the Sharjah Library Literature Prize, as part of the fifth Sharjah Library Literature Forum. The event aims to explore the transformations in the library sector and the leadership models necessary in the era of Library 4.0, emphasizing the use of data, emerging technologies, and the creation of agile institutions.
According to Emirates News Agency, the forum will take place at the Sharjah Book Authority's headquarters. It will focus on how libraries can utilize data and modern technologies under a clear leadership vision to transform these capabilities into effective decisions, services, and practices that bolster their knowledge and community roles. The programme includes panel discussions on strategic planning, community trust, sustainable partnerships, and institutional readiness for crisis management. Prize winners will also showcase their research and practical experiences.
During the event, SPL will honor winners in three prize categories, with a total prize value of AED85,000. The categories include the Research Category, Best Arab Library or Information Institution, and Best Project and Practice in the Field. Eman Bushlaibi, Director of SPL, highlighted the importance of smart leadership in guiding libraries toward meaningful transformation. She emphasized that Library 4.0 represents an agile institution that effectively responds to community needs and change.
The forum, under the theme 'Smart Leadership in the Fourth Era of Libraries,' will delve into leadership aspects in planning, decision-making, community relationship building, and enhancing institutional readiness to handle crises. Prize winners will present their findings, promoting the exchange of knowledge and linking research with practical applications within the library and information sector.
The upcoming 27th edition of the prize includes three categories. The Research Category offers AED45,000 in total prizes: AED20,000 for first place, AED15,000 for second place, and AED10,000 for third place. The Best Arab Library or Information Institution and Best Project and Practice in the Field categories each offer a prize of AED20,000. The Sharjah Library Literature Prize aims to support research and professional development in the fields of libraries, documentation, archives, and information, while connecting academic research with institutional practice to help the Arab library and information sector adapt to future changes.
