Abu Dhabi: The Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD), in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI), recently organized a workshop focusing on Public-Private Data Collaboration and the Construction Cost Index (CCI). This event was part of the Data for Good Initiative, aiming to enhance data collaboration in the construction sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, the workshop gathered key stakeholders from the construction, real estate, and consulting sectors to explore how data collaboration can improve the accuracy of economic indicators. This initiative is designed to provide businesses with reliable insights essential for strategic planning and investment. Participants included representatives from top engineering and consulting firms, real estate developers, and industry working groups, reflecting the diverse aspects of Abu Dhabi's construction ecosystem.
The Construction Cost Index (CCI) plays a crucial role in financial planning, cost forecasting, and risk management in Abu Dhabi's construction sector. By monitoring changes in construction material costs, labor, and related expenses, the CCI offers businesses, developers, and policymakers essential insights for informed decision-making and optimizing cost efficiency in large-scale projects.
Abdulla Alqemzi, Director General of SCAD, highlighted the significance of data collaboration in promoting transparency and supporting economic growth in Abu Dhabi. He noted that the CCI is vital for ensuring cost predictability and market efficiency. Through business-to-government data collaboration, a comprehensive framework has been developed, enabling businesses to contribute more accurately to economic data while gaining high-quality insights for strategic planning.
Alqemzi also emphasized the construction sector's central role in Abu Dhabi's economic development, achieving a record high value added of AED107.4 billion in 2024. This sector contributed 9.1% to the Emirate's total GDP, with a notable growth rate of 11.3%. Such performance is attributed to ongoing investments in urban infrastructure projects, which support job creation and sustained momentum across the sector.
In this context, Shamis Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Second Vice Chairman and Managing Director of ADCCI, reiterated the importance of collaboration between the private and public sectors in strengthening Abu Dhabi's economic landscape. He stated that effective collaboration is crucial for fostering a transparent and well-informed business environment.
The workshop also featured presentations and discussions on enhancing statistical insight dashboards, the role of data in economic forecasting, and opportunities for businesses to engage with SCAD's statistical programs. Industry leaders stressed the importance of utilizing accurate data to drive efficiency, investment, and growth within Abu Dhabi's construction sector.
