Abu dhabi: At least four people, including two children, lost their lives in Brazil's northeastern state of Pernambuco due to heavy rains resulting in flooding and landslides, according to local authorities.

According to Emirates News Agency, Pernambuco's civil defence agency reported that five individuals sustained injuries, and approximately 1,500 residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The state capital, Recife, witnessed tragic incidents where emergency medical officials confirmed the deaths of a woman and her six-year-old son following a hillside collapse in the Dois Unidos neighbourhood.

In the nearby city of Olinda, a landslide in the Alto da Bondade neighbourhood resulted in the deaths of a 20-year-old woman and her six-month-old son, while five others were successfully rescued from the affected area.

The severe weather also caused damage in various parts of the Recife metropolitan area and affected inland municipalities, leading to significant disruptions. Operations at Recife's international airport faced suspension for over five hours due to the intense storms.
