Kalba: H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, graced the closing ceremony of the second edition of the Kalba Eastern Marine Festival. The event took place over four days on the scenic beach of Kalba city.
According to Emirates News Agency, the festival was organized by Sharqiyah from Kalba Channel and Sharjah Sports Channel, both affiliates of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, in partnership with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club. Upon Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed's arrival, he was warmly received by a host of dignitaries, including Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chairman of the Ruler's Office in Kalba, and other senior officials.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan honoured the winners of the festival's competitions. In the open rowing category for GCC nationals, Ahmed Ibrahim Al Ghamlasi clinched first place on boat Al Dahab 65. The citizens' rowing category saw Fahd Ahmed Al Marrei take the top spot on boat Zalzal. In the kingfish fishing category, Saeed Rashid Mohammed Al Zaabi emerged as the winner. The Yoodar fishing category was won by Naif Saeed Al Naqbi, with the largest cobia prize going to Mohammed Hassan Mohammed bin Aboud.
Sheikh Sultan presented a commemorative gift to Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, acknowledging his support for the festival. He also recognized sponsors and partners for their role in the festival's success and received a commemorative gift himself for attending the event. The closing ceremony featured a visual presentation documenting the festival's journey, showcasing heritage activities such as fishing, diving, and shipbuilding.
Attendees, including Sheikh Sultan, enjoyed marine-themed folk performances. Following the ceremony, the Deputy Ruler toured the exhibition showcasing marine professions, tools, and coastal biodiversity. Art exhibitions, heritage competitions, and traditional sea-related games were also part of the festival, highlighting the area's maritime heritage.
The festival attracted a large public turnout, reflecting the historical connection between the community and the sea in Kalba. Marine sporting events like the Kalba Eastern Rowing and Fishing Championships were central to the program, featuring participation from amateurs and professionals across the UAE and GCC. The festival concluded successfully, underscoring Sharjah's commitment to heritage and community events that strengthen national identity and cultural tourism.
