The skies of Palestine and the region will witness a beautiful astronomical event tomorrow evening, Thursday, as the “giant moon” will appear in the form of a full moon immediately after sunset, appearing huge and beautiful in the sky.
According to the Palestinian Astronomical Society, the moon will rise on Thursday evening in the sky of Palestine at a size larger than the size of the usual full moon by up to 14%, and the surface of the moon will appear bright and very clear, so that it will be brighter and more luminous than the full moon under normal circumstances by up to 30%. .
The reason for the Moon’s proximity to the Earth is due to the Moon’s oval orbit around the Earth, so that the Moon is at its farthest point from the Earth every 28 days, and after 14 days the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth, and the difference between them reaches about 50 thousand kilometers.
When full moons are particularly close to Earth, this results in high tides. Tides are subject to the gravitational pull of the Moon and, to a lesser extent, the Sun. Because the Sun and Moon are in different alignments, this affects the size of the tides.
The Palestinian Astronomical Society called on astronomical events enthusiasts to enjoy watching the full moon on Thursday evening, as the residents of Palestine will enjoy a very bright night, and photography enthusiasts should take rare pictures with the moon falling at its closest point to the Earth during the current year, as the scene will be wonderful when the moon appears brightly. Significantly larger than usual.
