Southern Mexico: Three people were killed on Friday when their aircraft crashed in southern Mexico near the border with Guatemala. The victims included two Guatemalan pilots and a Mexican agricultural engineer. They were on a mission to release sterilised flies as part of efforts to halt the spread of screwworm infestations among livestock.
According to Emirates News Agency, Mexico had intensified its efforts to control the screwworm outbreak last month. This action followed the United States' suspension of cattle imports from Mexico due to concerns over the pest. The mission involving the aircraft was part of a broader initiative to tackle the screwworm issue, aiming to protect livestock and restore trade relations.
