Abu Dhabi: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, engaged in discussions to enhance relations between their countries and explore opportunities to strengthen ties.
According to Emirates News Agency, the discussions focused on bilateral cooperation, especially in development-related sectors, following the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement last year. The meeting, held at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, saw His Highness welcoming Her Excellency Sam Mostyn and her delegation on an official visit to the UAE, expressing wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Australia and its people.
The leaders also reviewed regional and international issues of joint interest, with particular attention to developments in the Middle East. They emphasized the importance of promoting regional stability and supporting efforts to achieve just, comprehensive, and lasting peace. Additionally, both sides stressed the need for fostering peaceful solutions to global conflicts through dialogue to serve humanity's interests and support global prosperity.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan noted the significance of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Australia, highlighting it as an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to deepening cooperation for shared development. He emphasized the growth in UAE-Australia relations and expressed the UAE's interest in advancing ties, particularly in future-focused sectors such as trade, investment, sustainability, culture, education, food security, and technology.
The leaders underscored the importance of continued collaboration, especially in priority areas, to deliver greater prosperity and wellbeing to their peoples. They stated that the UAE-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement provides an effective framework for stimulating economic cooperation and fostering trade and investment opportunities.
Her Excellency Sam Mostyn expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and praised the progress in bilateral relations while reaffirming Australia's commitment to strengthening ties for mutual benefit.
The meeting was attended by several UAE dignitaries and senior officials, alongside members of the Australian Governor-General's delegation.
