Abu dhabi: Al Dahra Agriculture Trading (ADAT), a subsidiary of Al Dahra Holding based in Abu Dhabi, has announced the activation of a five-year wheat supply agreement with Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC). This development marks a significant transition from a strategic framework established earlier in 2023 to practical implementation.
According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement was signed at the Cabinet of Ministers Headquarters in El Alamein, setting the operational framework for the supply of imported wheat to GASC. This is facilitated under a financing program backed by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX). The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Sherif Mohamed Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade and Chairman of GASC, alongside Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Al Dahra.
Valued at up to US$500 million over five years, the agreement formalizes the implementation of the framework announced in August 2023. It signifies the transition of a strategic commitment into a sustainable long-term wheat supply arrangement.
ADEX has emphasized its dedication to using innovative financing solutions to facilitate trade and enhance economic cooperation. By supporting the secure and sustainable supply of wheat from Al Dahra to Egypt, ADEX is contributing to strengthening trade relations between the UAE and Egypt, while also bolstering UAE exports and expanding their reach in global markets.
The five-year agreement exemplifies how targeted financing can foster long-term economic partnerships and fortify trade connections between the UAE and Egypt. Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Chief Corporate Affairs and Interim Chief People Officer at Al Dahra, remarked that this milestone signifies the operational delivery, long-term resilience, and partnerships that ensure access to essential food commodities for communities reliant on them.
Building on Al Dahra's extensive experience in fulfilling large-scale supply demands, the agreement leverages the company's global agricultural platform. Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained a significant presence in Egypt, with one of the country's largest private farming platforms located in Toshka and East Oweinat. The company integrates farming, production, processing, and supply chain capabilities to provide dependable access to essential food and feed products.
The signing of this agreement underscores the depth of agricultural cooperation between the UAE and Egypt, highlighting the importance of long-term partnerships rooted in operational delivery, supply continuity, and a shared commitment to sustainable agricultural development.
