Berlin: Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy to Germany, recently concluded an official working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, where he engaged in bilateral meetings with high-ranking German officials to strengthen relations across various sectors.
According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Jaber met with Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, and other senior officials including Katharina Reiche, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy; Patrick Schnieder, Federal Minister of Transport; and Dr. Levin Holle, Director-General for Economic, Financial and Climate Policy at the Federal Chancellery. The meetings were attended by Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State, and Ahmed Al Attar, UAE Ambassador to Germany.
The discussions underscored the longstanding relations between the UAE and Germany, highlighting the commitment to enhance cooperation in key areas such as the economy, energy, industry, and advanced technology. Dr. Al Jaber conveyed the UAE leadership’s greetings and emphasized the strategic importance of elevating relations to new levels of integration and partnership.
Dr. Al Jaber’s meeting with Chancellor Merz focused on expanding collaboration across sectors like industry, energy, renewable energy, advanced technology, and innovation. They explored ways to promote investment and strengthen sustainable economic cooperation, supporting the mutual interests of both countries.
In a meeting with Katharina Reiche, Dr. Al Jaber discussed enhancing cooperation in fields such as energy transition and green hydrogen, as well as exploring strategic opportunities in advanced manufacturing, supply chains, and modern industrial technologies.
The discussion with Patrick Schnieder centered on improving connectivity and developing sustainable transport infrastructure, including smart mobility and electric vehicles. The exchange of expertise in public transport and digital technologies was also on the agenda to support carbon emissions reduction.
Additionally, Dr. Al Jaber met with Mathias D¶pfner, CEO and Chairman of Axel Springer SE, to discuss the role of advanced technology and artificial intelligence in the digital media ecosystem.
Non-oil trade between the UAE and Germany saw significant growth, with trade reaching AED49.9 billion in 2024, marking a 3.9 percent increase. This upward trend continued in the first half of 2025, with a 19 percent rise compared to the same period in 2024, totaling nearly AED27.6 billion. The growth was driven by increases in UAE exports, imports, and re-exports.
