Dubai: The UAE concluded its successful participation at COP29, highlighting its ongoing commitment to global climate action and the COP28 legacy. President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the opening of the World Climate Action Summit. The UAE delegation engaged proactively across the conference, including the COP Presidency handover to Azerbaijan on the first day, participation in plenaries, high-level dialogues, and presentations at the UAE Pavilion under the theme 'Accelerating Action Together'. According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE remains committed to playing an effective and ambitious role as a global steward in climate action. Throughout COP29, the UAE demonstrated its dedication to fostering sustainable and impactful environmental initiatives. Abdulla Balalaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, emphasized the UAE's historical commitment to climate action and praised the achievements of the COP28 Presidency under Dr. Sultan al Jaber. Th e conference saw significant progress, including the operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund, which has amassed $850 million. Technological advancements and innovative tools were highlighted, showcasing a future where current climate challenges could become opportunities. The UAE looks forward to further global alignment and solutions at upcoming COP events. The UAE's delegation at COP29 included over 1,000 participants from various ministries, the Presidential Court, and key figures in UAE climate action. The UAE Pavilion attracted thousands of attendees and hosted discussions with representatives from diverse international organizations and governments. Numerous initiatives were launched or updated, including the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance and the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate, which announced substantial investment commitments. The UAE also signed several climate-related declarations and hosted insightful discussions across 62 programmes, featuring over 255 speakers. The UAE's climate action efforts continue with upcoming events like Global Food Week in Abu Dhabi and COP16 in Riyadh, where discussions will focus on sustainable food systems and further climate action initiatives.
