UAE Engages in GCC Workshop to Formulate Anti-Money Laundering Strategy

Kuwait city: The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Interior, participated in a workshop aimed at developing the Gulf Anti-Money Laundering Strategy. This event was organized by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and hosted by Kuwait's Ministry of Interior.

According to Emirates News Agency, the workshop, which took place from September 8-11, sought to establish a unified strategic framework to bolster security and regulatory cooperation among GCC member states. The framework is intended to align with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF).

The discussions at the workshop emphasized enhancing the GCC Secretariat's role in combating money laundering and involved a review of national legislation, policies, and mechanisms for further development. The event saw participation from Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, and representatives from GCC Ministries of Interior, regulatory and judicial authorities, central banks, and specialized international organizations.
