Abu Dhabi:The 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, set to take place in Abu Dhabi in 2026, marked its third day at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi. The event focused on the UAE's diplomatic and judicial initiatives to tackle criminal, environmental, and technological issues through various thematic and ancillary meetings aimed at enhancing international justice.
According to Emirates News Agency, Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, the UAE Minister of Justice and President of the Congress, engaged in bilateral discussions with representatives from Bangladesh, Canada, Kazakhstan, India, and the United Kingdom. These talks aimed at strengthening legal and judicial partnerships and combating organized and transnational crime through cooperation and expertise exchange.
Al Nuaimi addressed a workshop on combating human trafficking, highlighting the need for governments and businesses to identify exploitation risks linked to supply chains and international trade. He also participated in a session on protecting youth in sports, focusing on crime prevention and safeguarding young athletes from exploitation.
In addition, Al Nuaimi attended a session on leveraging technology to promote women's leadership and discussed the CONNECT initiative, which aims to enhance African-led operations against crime and terrorism links. Discussions also explored innovative crime prevention strategies to support social, economic, and environmental development.
The Congress featured a workshop on data collection and analysis to improve crime prevention, with a focus on privacy and responsible data use. The UAE showcased its approach to using AI for national risk assessments and combating corruption, emphasizing governance and transparency.
The event included 45 ancillary meetings covering topics such as organized crime, financial crime, the protection of children, environmental crime, and cybercrime. These discussions highlighted various global challenges and the need for collaborative solutions to enhance justice systems worldwide.
The Congress will continue until October 1, 2026, aiming to implement the priorities of the Abu Dhabi Declaration and promote practical international crime prevention initiatives.
