UAE Hosts Gate of Sudan Festival to Celebrate Bilateral Ties with Sudan

Dubai: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended the Gate of Sudan festival at Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City Dubai, which welcomed over 20,000 visitors including Sudanese families and individuals, as well as other residents of the UAE.

According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Nahyan emphasized that by hosting major cultural events celebrating the heritage of various nations, the UAE underscores its commitment to fostering meaningful intercultural dialogue and promoting a model of productive and inclusive coexistence among all communities.

In his address during the festival, Sheikh Nahyan stated that hosting such a cultural event reflects the UAE's ongoing efforts to strengthen human connection and celebrate civilisational diversity. He highlighted the festival as a symbol of genuine affection and sincere brotherhood, honoring the deep appreciation for the Sudanese people and their contributions to the UAE's development and bilateral ties.

Sheikh Nahyan spoke about the historical depth of UAE-Sudan relations, built on mutual respect, shared language, culture, and a vision for a better future for the Arab and Islamic worlds. He expressed pride in the close ties between the UAE and Sudan, conveying wishes for peace, unity, and progress to the Sudanese people.

He also noted that the festival celebrates the UAE's model of tolerance and coexistence, led by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The festival praised the UAE's inclusive society built on mutual respect and shared prosperity.

Concluding his remarks, Sheikh Nahyan expressed confidence in Sudan's ability to overcome challenges and build a peaceful and prosperous future. He offered appreciation to the Sudanese people, affirming their continued strength and resilience.

The festival attracted a large turnout from the Sudanese community and featured participation from notable Sudanese figures in the UAE, including business leaders, artists, intellectuals, and athletes. The programme included cultural performances, traditional heritage displays, and an exhibition showcasing Sudanese customs and crafts.

Sudanese singer Nancy Agag performed, and the entertainment segment featured stand-up comedy, social media influencers, and content creators. The vibrant atmosphere celebrated Sudan's rich cultural diversity and heritage.

A dedicated exhibition highlighted traditional music, folk dances, handmade goods, and Sudanese cuisine. Highlights included performances by the Salwa folklore troupe and an engaging comedy segment. A traditional market area and the heritage exhibition offered immersive cultural experiences, including traditional attire and henna art.

The Gate of Sudan festival follows last year's successful "Sudan in the Heart of the UAE" event, which saw significant participation from Sudanese families, business leaders, and professionals based in the UAE.
