UAE Jiu-Jitsu Team Shines with Three Golds at Asian Games

Aichi-Nagoya:The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team celebrated a historic achievement by securing three gold medals and two silvers on the opening day of the jiu-jitsu competition at the 20th Asian Games. This marked the UAE's most successful day in Asian Games history in terms of medals won.

According to Emirates News Agency, Khaled Al Shehhi emerged victorious in the men's 62kg category, while Balqees Abdulla claimed the women's 48kg title. Ahmed Andeez added to the gold tally by winning the men's 69kg category. The UAE's medal haul was complemented by Al Anoud Al Harbi's silver in the women's 48kg and Omar Al Suwaidi's silver in the men's 62kg, showcasing the strength of the national jiu-jitsu program.

The presence of Shihab AlFaheem, UAE Ambassador to Japan, and key figures from the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation at the medal ceremonies highlighted the significance of these victories. The UAE's success was further underlined by two all-Emirati finals, demonstrating the depth of talent within the squad.

In an all-Emirati showdown, Al Shehhi defeated teammate Al Suwaidi to secure the top two spots on the podium in the men's 62kg category. Similarly, the women's 48kg competition saw Abdulla triumph over Al Harbi, emphasizing the progress of women's jiu-jitsu in the UAE.

The achievements reinforce the UAE's position as a leading jiu-jitsu nation in Asia, backed by the Federation's long-term commitment to athlete development and the continued investment in the sport.

Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri highlighted the historic nature of these results, attributing the success to a clear strategic plan and the support of Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohamed Alhashmi. The team's performances reflect the UAE's leadership's dedication to promoting jiu-jitsu and establishing Abu Dhabi as a hub for major championships.

Yousef Abdullah Al Batran praised the athletes' hard work and the contributions of their families and coaches, expressing hope for continued success in the remaining competitions.

The jiu-jitsu events will continue until Saturday, October 3, with the UAE team aiming to further increase their medal count.
