UAE Partners with Starlink to Revolutionize Digital Education in Remote Areas

Dubai: The Digital School, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, has announced a strategic global partnership with Starlink, the satellite internet service, during the World Government Summit 2026. This collaboration aims to expand access to digital education for learners in remote and underserved communities worldwide by integrating reliable connectivity with comprehensive digital learning.

According to Emirates News Agency, the partnership underscores the UAE's leadership in advancing future-ready education solutions and solidifying global collaboration, while also emphasizing its commitment to equitable education access and shaping the future of learning. The announcement was made in the presence of Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, and Chairman of the Board of The Digital School.

The agreement was signed by Ryan Goodnight, Senior Director of Market Access and Development at SpaceX, and Dr. Waleed Al Ali, Secretary-General of The Digital School. Omar Sultan Al Olama highlighted the UAE's approach to building impactful global partnerships in vital sectors, particularly digital education. He emphasized that digital connectivity is a strategic necessity for ensuring equitable access to education in remote and underserved areas.

Ryan Goodnight expressed enthusiasm about delivering high-speed connectivity to The Digital School and its students, enabling access to online learning, collaboration tools, global scholarships, and career resources. He noted that this would spark curiosity and growth among students in connectivity-challenged areas.

The partnership will provide reliable satellite internet connectivity and facilitate the development of a comprehensive digital education ecosystem by The Digital School. This includes tailored digital education programs, learning platforms, digital content, and capacity-building for educators. The first phase targets 100 sites in remote areas worldwide, with a flexible design for expansion based on impact readiness.

Three schools in Lesotho have already been equipped with Starlink connectivity and integrated digital education systems. These include computers, a digital learning platform, digitized national curricula, and teacher training programs, ensuring measurable educational impact.

Starlink, engineered by SpaceX, is the world's most advanced satellite constellation, offering reliable broadband internet. The Digital School, launched in November 2020, aims to empower learners through diverse digital learning options, targeting underprivileged communities globally. It has benefited over 800,000 learners and trained more than 30,000 digital educators, with content available in seven languages.
