Abu Dhabi: Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, affirmed the UAE's ongoing commitment to protecting ocean ecosystems and enhancing their sustainability as a vital resource at both the national and global levels. On World Oceans Day, Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the essential role oceans play in regulating climate, providing sustenance, and supporting ecosystems, while acknowledging the unprecedented challenges they face.

According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Dahak emphasized the UAE's dedication to addressing issues such as climate change impacts, unsustainable fishing practices, and pollution. She noted the UAE's significant efforts in mangrove preservation and coral rehabilitation, with ambitious targets to plant 100 million mangroves and outplant over four million coral colonies by 2030.

Dr. Al Dahak also spoke about the UAE's international cooperation in ocean protection, including its pioneering role in the Middle East as the first nation to join the '100% Alliance.' This UN initiative encourages coastal states to commit to sustainable management of all ocean areas under their jurisdiction.

Concluding her message, Dr. Al Dahak called for individual action in ocean conservation, urging people to learn about sustainable seafood choices, reduce plastic consumption, and support ocean conservation organizations. She stressed the importance of instilling a love for the oceans in future generations to ensure that the 'Wonder' of the ocean persists.
