UAE Pledges USD 500 Million at U.S. Donors’ Conference for Sudan

Washington: The United Arab Emirates participated in the U.S. Donors' Conference for Sudan, with Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State, leading the UAE delegation. During the conference, the UAE announced a USD 500 million commitment to address urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan, reflecting its enduring commitment to ensuring that civilians affected by the devastating civil war can access life-saving assistance.

According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE expressed its appreciation to the United States for convening the conference at a critical moment and for sustaining international attention on the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan, particularly as the Holy Month of Ramadan approaches. Lana Zaki Nusseibeh commended President Trump's leadership in support of a peaceful, united, and stable Sudan. She highlighted that more than 30 million Sudanese require humanitarian assistance and noted the UAE's commitment as a significant step alongside the generous U.S. pledge.

Nusseibeh also praised the efforts of Tom Fletcher, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, in supporting the people of Sudan. She emphasized the collective efforts of the QUAD, which has maintained a consistent position that Sudan's future must be determined by its people, requiring a civilian-led transition process independent of warring parties and extremist groups.

The UAE's support for an immediate cessation of hostilities was reaffirmed to allow humanitarian organizations to deliver aid across all parts of Sudan. Nusseibeh stressed that humanitarian assistance must not be politicized or weaponized and highlighted the importance of specific humanitarian and development projects for women and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

The UAE has a longstanding commitment to Sudan, having provided more than USD 4.24 billion in assistance over the past decade, including almost USD 800 million in humanitarian aid since 2023. Following the conference, Nusseibeh participated in the QUAD meeting with Senior U.S. Envoy, Massad Boulos, and representatives from Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
