UAE Secures Seven Medals on Opening Day of Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Jordan

Amman: The UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, kicked off their campaign at the 9th Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship with a remarkable achievement, securing seven medals on the first day of the competition held at Prince Hamzah Hall in Al Hussein Youth City, Amman.

According to Emirates News Agency, the team clinched two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals in the men's divisions, underscoring their dominance in one of Asia's most prestigious jiu-jitsu tournaments. Gold medals were won by Theyab Al Nuaimi (56kg) and Mohamed Ali Al Suwaidi (69kg). The silver medalists included Omar Al Suwaidi (56kg) and Khaled Al Shehhi (62kg), while bronze medals were earned by Mehdi Al Awlaki (77kg), Hazza Al Qubaisi (85kg), and Faraj Al Awlaki (94kg).

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, extended his congratulations to the athletes, attributing their continental success to the sustained support from wise leadership. He emphasized that this positive start reflects the dedication of the technical and administrative teams, as well as the players' discipline. Al Shamsi described it as an encouraging step towards achieving the goal of leading the overall rankings, enhancing confidence in the team, and highlighting the athletes' commitment to representing the UAE with pride.

He also acknowledged the strategic partnership with Mubadala, established in 2023, for its crucial role in enhancing the team's preparedness and performance in major continental and international tournaments.

Head Coach Helder Medeiros expressed satisfaction with the results, noting the high level of play and progress exhibited by several Asian nations. He mentioned the team's ongoing analysis and preparation for the upcoming women's and under-21 competitions.

Gold medalist Theyab Al Nuaimi celebrated his victory as a proud moment for himself and his teammates, crediting weeks of rigorous training and discipline. He expressed gratitude towards his coach and the federation for their continuous support.
