Abu dhabi: The UAE Aid Agency has signed a cooperation agreement with International Medical Corps - UK to support healthcare provision for Sudanese people affected by recent violence. The agreement focuses on a project called 'Emergency Response to the Crisis in Sudan'. According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE Aid Agency will contribute US$2,000,000 to the project. The signing ceremony took place at the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, attended by Dr. Tareq Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency. Rashid Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics at UAE Aid Agency, and David Eastman, Managing Director of International Medical Corps - UK, signed the agreement. The initiative aims to reduce morbidity and mortality among conflict-affected populations through mobile health and nutrition teams. Dr. Al Ameri emphasized that the conflict escalation has displaced hundreds of thousands, highlighting the urgent need for medical intervention. Dr. Al Ameri noted that the UAE has invested $784 million in Sudan's humanitarian situation over the last two and a half years. Eastman added that the healthcare needs in Sudan are critical, and the partnership with the UAE Aid Agency is vital to support vulnerable communities. International Medical Corps has been active in Sudan for two decades, providing essential health services. The project will deploy three Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams to offer outpatient consultations, maternal and child health services, immunization, and nutrition screening. It will also strengthen emergency obstetric and GBV care, supply essential medicines, and provide safe water to IDP settlements. The project prioritizes female- and child-headed households. Additionally, hygiene kits, kitchen sets, blankets, and other household items will be distributed to improve conditions for the most vulnerable displaced families.
