Abu dhabi: The UAE Journalists Association (UAEJA) has emphasized the critical role that free and responsible media plays in defending national awareness and partnering with the state in ensuring national security and societal stability. This statement was released in recognition of World Press Freedom Day, celebrated annually on May 3.
According to Emirates News Agency, the UAEJA highlighted the importance of media in not just reporting news but also in uncovering facts, countering disinformation, and raising public awareness about threats targeting the security and sovereignty of states. The statement specifically pointed to the aggressive policies pursued by Iran towards Gulf states as a pressing challenge where media can make a significant impact.
The association further stressed that press freedom should be practiced with national responsibility and adherence to professional standards. This approach, according to UAEJA, helps maintain societal stability, strengthens social cohesion, and prevents media platforms from being exploited to spread chaos or promote hostile agendas.
In addition, the UAEJA reiterated its support for professional media efforts that protect the national narrative and defend the state's interests. It emphasized that responsible media is committed to standing with the truth and contributing to national security and stability, ultimately consolidating Gulf unity in the face of shared challenges.
