UAE’s Transport and Supply Chain System Demonstrates Resilience and Efficiency Amid Regional Challenges

Abu dhabi: Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure and Chairman of the Supply and Transport Committee, affirmed that the UAE's transport and supply chain system continues to operate efficiently and steadily, supported by an integrated national approach based on proactiveness, integration, and future readiness.

According to Emirates News Agency, Al Mazrouei stated that the transport and supply chain system's continuity reflects a high level of resilience in addressing regional challenges and enhances the efficient flow of goods. This has been achieved through a flexible infrastructure that supports the sustainability of supply chains, in addition to the diversity and integration of transport channels across maritime, land, and rail sectors. Container handling has exceeded 262,000 containers, with approximately 4,800 trucks operating daily to enhance connectivity between ports. Around 1,200 vessels have also been monitored within UAE waters.

Al Mazrouei noted that connectivity between Gulf coast ports and the eastern coast is strengthened through an integrated trucking network, facilitated by lifting movement restrictions and fee exemptions. Effective regional and international cooperation has ensured an uninterrupted flow of goods. The governance of the system is managed through the Supply and Transport Committee under a comprehensive national framework, relying on collaboration with the private sector and coordination among over 20 federal, local, and operational entities.

The Minister highlighted the pivotal role of the national team overseeing the supply and transport sector, which includes specialised operational teams managing flow, data, and logistics. The team operates a national operations room around the clock, monitoring shipment movements in real time, prioritising vessel entry and departure, and addressing operational challenges immediately. Infrastructure investments have significantly enhanced supply chain readiness, with increased capacity at eastern coast ports, expanded cooling points, and additional storage space.

Mohammed Al Mansoori, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs, confirmed that flexible facilitations for transport companies have directly supported the logistics sector, ensuring the smooth flow of goods. Measures such as activating alternative routes, lifting truck movement restrictions, and coordinating with local authorities have accelerated transport operations and reduced travel time.

Al Mansoori emphasised that UAE ports have demonstrated strong efficiency and readiness since early March, characterised by advanced operational capacity and integration with the railway network and land border crossings. These efforts reflect the integration of roles among relevant entities and contribute to strengthening the UAE's competitiveness as a global logistics hub.

Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority, affirmed that the smooth flow of logistics operations reflects national integration among federal, local, and operational entities. Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, highlighted the role of national carriers in ensuring the continuity of supply chains and enhancing supply security.

Abdulla bin Damithan, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation in Dubai, noted that the UAE's advanced operational indicators reflect its ability to adapt to rapid changes in global trade efficiently. Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, emphasised the national railway network's role in strengthening transport system integration, boosting trade movement both domestically and regionally, and supporting economic growth.
