Ultrasonic Welding Technology Revolutionizes Metal Joint Durability

Accra:Scientists from Russia and China have collaborated to develop an advanced ultrasonic welding technology that significantly enhances the strength and longevity of metal joints.

According to Emirates News Agency, the new method, as reported by TV BRICS citing South Ural State University (SUSU), doubles the strength of metal joints and increases component durability by 1.9 times. Researchers have concentrated on joining metals with different properties, such as steel and aluminum, reducing the risk of fractures caused by brittle layers at the joints.

This innovative technique uses ultrasonic waves at a power of approximately 1,200 watts during spot welding. It improves the metal's crystal structure, reducing the crystal size by nearly fivefold. The process also halves the thickness of brittle layers and eliminates air bubbles, resulting in denser, more durable welds.

Tests have shown that the technology not only doubles joint strength but also extends the service life of components by 90 percent. This advancement is expected to improve resistance to prolonged vibration and mechanical stress. The researchers propose that this technology could be utilized in the automotive, aerospace, and construction industries, aiding in the creation of lighter and stronger structures.
