UN Warns of Scorching Autumn as El Ni±o Intensifies

New york: United Nations Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres has warned of a late summer and an exceptionally hot autumn across the Northern Hemisphere as the El Ni±o climate phenomenon intensifies, while the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) expects the event to strengthen further in the coming months.

According to Emirates News Agency, Guterres spoke in New York on Friday, stating that El Ni±o "is not just at our doorstep - it is already in the house and making the heat worse." He emphasized that the current situation is only the beginning of what could be a challenging period, with El Ni±o exacerbating conditions on a planet already grappling with extreme heat domes, devastating wildfires, and record-breaking ocean temperatures.

The World Meteorological Organization has reported that El Ni±o, along with already elevated ocean temperatures and other climate patterns in the Indian Ocean, will impact global weather patterns during the latter half of the year. The organization anticipates that these climatic disruptions will peak in November, potentially leading to significant environmental and societal challenges worldwide.
