Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index Rises by 4.57% in First Ten Months of 2026

Hanoi:Vietnam's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.2 percent in October compared to the previous month, primarily influenced by a rise in domestic fuel prices that align with global trends, as reported by the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance.

According to Wam, the October CPI increased by 4.41 percent from December 2025 and showed a year-on-year rise of 5.09 percent. On average, the CPI increased by 4.57 percent in the first ten months of 2026, with core inflation at 4.24 percent.

In comparison to September, prices increased in seven out of the 11 main groups of consumer goods and services, while four groups experienced declines. The CPI rose by 0.16 percent in urban areas and by 0.25 percent in rural areas, as reported by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

The food and catering services group saw a year-on-year increase of 4.61 percent, contributing 1.65 percentage points to the overall CPI growth. Housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials showed a 6.66 percent increase, adding 1.51 percentage points to the CPI. Transport prices rose by 6.98 percent, contributing 0.7 percentage points to the overall CPI growth, with fuel prices up by 13.09 percent.

The statistics office highlighted that CPI growth sped up in the early months of the year, peaked in May, decreased in June and July, and rose again from August through October. The main contributing factors to this trend were higher global fuel and gas prices, rising construction and housing maintenance costs, increased electricity demand, and higher food input costs.

Core inflation decreased by 0.05 percent in October from the previous month but rose 4.04 percent year-on-year. Its average increase of 4.24 percent in the first ten months remained below the headline CPI growth.
